Calif. direct marketing agency.</strong></p>
<p>Fortunately, I&#8217;ve been a customer of this bank for decades, so I could write from first-hand experience about its great customer service. The new <strong>Card Design Studio</strong> lets you customize your Business or Personal ATM/Debit Card with a photo.</p>
<p>Lots of banks offer that, but Wells Fargo lets you upload not just your mug shot, but your logo, your typeface, your branding elements, your corporate colors, and more.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re a Wells Fargo customer, the Card Design Studio service is <strong>&#8220;Fast, easy and free&#8221;</strong> as I stated in the direct marketing package as a freelance financial copywriter, and as the bank has used in its online page on its Website.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/CDS_ScubaPix_400w.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1885" title="CDS_ScubaPix_400w" src="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/CDS_ScubaPix_400w.jpg" alt="" width="350" height="200" /></a>On this page are some examples of my business check card art (above) and my personal card art (left) that are now branded with my photo and my logo, respectively.</p>
<p>The Card Design Studio lets you also choose from dozens of images in its library if you don&#8217;t have one of your own &#8212; and the whole online design process literally takes a few minutes, whether you&#8217;re an expert in design or not.</p>
<p>Finally, here&#8217;s an example of the front of the brochure from the direct response project that I crafted as a freelance financial copywriter.</p>

<h2><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Three-Dimensional Direct Response Project for Barclays Global Investors</strong></span></h2>

<a href="http://www.barclaysglobal.com/" target="_blank">Barclays Global Investors&#8217;</a> sales force wanted to send a mailing to Fortune 500 HR managers to expand their pension plan fund base. I was hired by a San Rafael direct marketing agency as a freelance direct response copywriter to help them solve the problem.</p>
<p>I wrote the copy for this three-dimensional package that was sent via 2-day priority mail requiring a receipt signature.The inside box&#8217;s headline was: <strong>&#8220;401(k) spoken here.&#8221;</strong> A personalized letter invited the prospect to call a toll-free number to schedule an appointment with a BGI rep. An inbound call center took the calls and scheduled the meetings. On the bottom of the box was one of a set of two two-way radios with the headline <strong>&#8220;Let&#8217;s Open a Line of Communication.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>In an industry where a 1% response rate is considered good, this mailing garnered an amazing 20%. Of those, almost 25% agreed to an appointment with BGI, resulting in several million dollars in invested funds.</p>
<h2><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Direct Response Postcards for Brainstorm Networks</strong></span></h2>
<p><a title="animatefatpipes.gif" href="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/animatefatpipes.gif"><img src="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/animatefatpipes.gif" alt="animatefatpipes.gif" /></a><br />
<strong>Brainstorm Networks</strong>, a South Bay Internet Service Provider now owned by RCN, called on me to write and manage a direct marketing campaign as a freelance direct response copywriter. I branded them as &#8220;The Business-Only ISP,&#8221; then wrote a series of four postcards initially, and had the client mail them once every two weeks to its target audience: businesses in the South Bay and San Francisco.</p>
<p>Their response rates were 4% for the three postcards shown in the animated gif and 6% for the one titled <strong>&#8220;Does Your ISP Only Serve Business?&#8221;</strong> on the front and <strong>&#8220;We Do. They Don&#8217;t&#8221;</strong> on the back. Why? Because the latter postcard had a checklist for what brainstorm offered vs. the competitors, making it &#8220;interactive&#8221;.</p>

As a freelance direct response copywriter, I love this execution because it&#8217;s a fun headline married to a great layout for an international shipping company. <strong><a href="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/dhlpromo_front.pdf">DHL Promotion PDF</a></strong>.</p>
<h2><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Direct Response Promotional Ad for FedEx</strong></span></h2>
<p><a href="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/fx_fu_ntd_st_ad.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-277" title="fx_fu_ntd_st_ad" src="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/fx_fu_ntd_st_ad.jpg" alt="Fed Ex Freight Ad" /></a> As a freelance San Francisco copywriter, I&#8217;ve created campaigns for a variety of shipping companies, including Viking Freight, DHL, Emery Air Freight, Consolidated Freightways and Greyhound Package Express.</p>
<p>This ad was the announcement of a merger of Viking Freight in the Western states and American Freightways in the Midwest and Eastern states under the name of Fed Ex Freight.<br />

<p>As an Associate Creative Director at Grey Advertising, San Francisco copywriter, I wrote this campaign of three newspaper ads for BofA&#8217;s Home Loan division. The ads were to have run for six weeks. But after only two, the client asked the agency to stop running them because the phone lines were swamped with a surplus of calls. Offering BofA&#8217;s lowest rates and the first ever refinancing adjustable rate home loans were also contributing factors to their success.</p>

So I found the world&#8217;s fastest talker in New York City, flew her to SF for a recording session, and hired a male voice actor as her &#8220;translator&#8221; for this script. <p><strong>The Company:</strong> <a href="http://www.corporatephonecards.com/" target="_blank">CorporatePhoneCards.com</a> is a full-service provider of promotional phone cards. Its goal is to help clients achieve recognition and create consumer response by offering attractive, professional, and cost-effective advertisements in a space no larger than a business card.</p>
<p><strong>The Challenge:</strong> The client wanted to reach executives in ad agencies across the U.S. to recommend that their clients give away promotional phone cards to advertise their services.</p>
<p><strong>The Solution:</strong> As a freelance copywriter, I wrote and managed this project between a San Francisco Bay Area researcher with target market accuracy (Frank Jamieson of <a href="http://www.applieddmresearch.com/" target="_blank">AppliedDMResearch.com</a>), a very high-end direct marketing art director (Paschal Sabatella of <a href="http://www.sabatellacreative.com/" target="_blank">SabatellaCreative.com</a>, and the client in New York State.</p>
<p>Together, we created three postcards that were mailed to the top 1,600 ad agencies across the US. A follow-up effort by a top notch telemarketer (Linda Fadden of <a href="http://www.salesrunner.com">SalesRunner.com</a>) was made by calling each recipient to ask if they&#8217;d received the mailings, what they remembered, and if they wanted to set an appointment to speak to someone about purchasing the best corporate promotional phone cards on the market for their advertising clients.</p>
<p>Freelance copywriters know the call to action on the back of each postcard is all-important. So I wrote: <strong>Get ROI, ASAP</strong> with an exclusive long-distance phone card program designed to help agencies obtain higher response rates for their clients&#8217; incentive programs. The best part of this program? You only pay for the phone cards that are activated &#8212; not every single one of them.</p>
<p><strong>The Results:</strong> The postcards received a 1% response rate in the spring of 2009 in the midst of one of the worse recessions for advertisers in recent history. But the follow-up telemarketing calls received results beyond everyone&#8217;s expectations. Though she had targeted reaching 13.3% of executives to prospects, Ms. Fadden actually reached 25.1% of them. This resulted in 5.7% of them setting phone appointments with our client and an additional 43.7% of them requesting more information from Corporate Phone Cards.</p>

<p><strong>I&#8217;m versatile and prolific.</strong> As a financial copywriter, I write dozens of projects a year, so I can handle a large volume of work &#8212;- from video-based banners, emails, print ads and radio to direct response letters, mini-sites, Website and even your annual report.</p>

&#8211; Through Cohn &amp; Wells Direct Marketing, I drafted a DMP with 17 cells and six million pieces of mail to introduce the Sunoco MasterCard to current and future BankAmericard customers (budget was approximately $1 million).</p>

<p>– For 360 Group, San Rafael, I wrote a project that launched an in-branch promotion for the Business Gateway. It included easel-backed counter cards, take-one brochures, in-branch posters and follow-up direct response letters for a referral program for its &#8220;Refer a Colleague&#8221; on-line checking services.<br />
&#8211; I wrote a series of <a href="http://www.zeimer.com/portfolio/freelance-direct-marketing-financial-copywriting/" target="_blank">direct response letters to Equity Line Platinum Card owners</a> with a promotional overlay from Home Depot with another agency, Damore Johan.<br />
&#8211; As a freelance financial copywriter, I&#8217;ve written multiple direct mail projects for one of Wells Fargo&#8217;s contracted ad agencies in San Francisco for Home Equity Lines of Credit.</p>

<p><strong>Irwin Financial Corporation/Premier Equity</strong> &#8212; For this major East Bay-based company, I was hired for freelance financial copywriting to create a series of four Home Equity Loan direct mail packages. They included a &#8220;Credit Card Challenge&#8221;.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/respect.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-361" title="respect" src="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/respect.jpg" alt="Respect Ad" /></a> Earlier this year, I worked as a freelance copywriter with the very talented San Francisco art director <a href="http://www.johndonaghue.com/" target="_blank">John Donaghue<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span></a>on a new direct marketing campaign for <a href="http://www.midlandannuity.com/" target="_blank">Midland National&#8217;s Annuities Division</a>.</p>
<p>The goal was to create a new brand for this seven-year old division of a 100+-year-old insurance company to recruit insurance agents who could sell its best-of-breed annuities products.</p>
<p>This multi-channel campaign included B2B magazine ads like the one shown on the left, emails, and direct marketing packages to join the Midland National Team.</p>
<p>It was quite successful in recruiting dozens of agents across the U.S.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/dhlpromo_front1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-342" title="dhlpromo_front1" src="http://www.zeimer.com/wp-content/uploads/dhlpromo_front1.jpg" alt="DHL Promotion" /></a> About 10 years ago, I was called by a local ad agency who needed a freelance San Francisco copywriter to craft a promotional ad for <a href="http://www.dhl.com/splash.html" target="_blank">DHL Worldwide Express</a> delivery services.</p>
<p>The art director and I started kicking around some concepts. I asked if we could show snow globes of various cities where DHL delivered globally. He said, &#8220;That&#8217;s ironic. I have a <em>huge </em>snow globe collection and I&#8217;ve got about 100 of them here in the office.&#8221;</p>
<p>The rest is direct response history with this $20 savings ad for &#8220;overnight service to 48 cities around the world.&#8221; The back of the ad featured all of the dozens of pick-up locations in downtown Atlanta to appeal to the recipients of this ad for a trade show. As a freelance copywriter, I love this execution because it&#8217;s a fun headline married to a great layout for an international shipping company.</p>

The thing I like best about this company is that it was started by an audio engineer who was trying to help his hearing-impaired daughter lead a more productive life.</p>
<p>This letter included a coupon for a free steak dinner. The recipient of the mailer was asked to visit a local Zounds Hearing Center, get a hearing test to see if he/she was a possible candidate for this great technology, and would then be able to test the hearing aid in a noisy place.</p>
<p>My designer and I decided to use a combination of  and handwritten font to highlight certain parts of the letter.</p>

 &#8212; Follow-up direct response letters for its &#8220;Refer a Colleague&#8221; on-line checking services program.<br />
